RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the staff with the media and public affairs portfolios for the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO)
- Coordinate external communications and draft and edit press releases
- Collect and analyze information requests from the news media and the public, and prepare response recommendations
- Translate complex legal and technical information into everyday language for a wide variety of audiences
- Prepare written communications/docs to inform and educate stakeholders on USAO programs, activities, and services
- Support the coordination of community and other District programs and projects
- Draft and edit pamphlets, handouts, and other technical writing materials
- Analyze and recommend innovative communication solutions, including managing authorized social media accounts
- Provide expertise on emerging trends and technology in the writing industry
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Be able to work with internet software programs for uploading information
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of the media process and deadlines
- Good judgment and discretion, ability to interact and participate effectively in a variety of settings
EDUCATION
- Four-year undergraduate degree required
- A degree in English, journalism, communications or a related field is preferred, but not required
