ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Legal Clerk to support the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi (USAO NDMS) in Oxford, MS. Your responsibilities will focus on delivering high-quality administrative and logistical support to ensure the effective coordination of fact witness travel, timely processing of reimbursement documentation, and daily collaboration with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), internal support staff, and external law enforcement and judicial partners in a secure federal environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Witness Coordination
- Provide support to fact witnesses before, during, and after court proceedings
- Communicate with witnesses regarding appearance times, travel arrangements, and special needs
- Greet and escort witnesses to designated hearing or courtroom locations
- Deliver courtroom orientation while ensuring a safe, appropriate waiting area is available
- Notify AUSAs of unusual witness circumstances requiring attention or approval
- Respond to inquiries from witnesses related to court procedures, scheduling, and reimbursements
- Track active or upcoming witness appearances, grand jury sessions, and trial dates
- Liaise with AUSAs, court personnel, United States Marshals Service (USMS), and other justice system partners as needed
- Coordinate witness travel, lodging, and scheduling in alignment with Department of Justice (DOJ) and USAO policies
- Collect required signatures and documentation to complete witness reimbursement
- Prepare and process witness vouchers and reimbursement forms in compliance with DOJ guidelines
- Monitor and reconcile government travel accounts associated with witness expenses
- Maintain accurate witness files, calendars, and case-related databases
- Draft routine correspondence using established legal terminology, procedural guidelines
- Support general administrative operations related to fact witness management
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of legal administrative procedures and documentation standards
- Knowledge of handling sensitive or confidential information in a legal or administrative setting
- Skilled in word processing, data entry, and information retrieval using standard office software
- Skilled in preparing, formatting, and editing reports, correspondence, and official documents
- Skilled in organizing and maintaining case files, calendars, and internal tracking systems
- Skilled in retrieving and analyzing information from internal databases and external sources
- Ability to provide accurate case-related updates and respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to obtain and verify information from other agencies and partner organizations to support case coordination
- Ability to ensure data accuracy and perform analytical calculations related to case tracking and reimbursements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with legal personnel, witnesses, and external agencies
BACKGROUND
- Experience supporting legal, court, or administrative operations preferred
- Experience coordinating logistics or managing travel and reimbursements preferred
- Experience working with government agencies or in a federal legal environment preferred
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information preferred
- Experience interacting with external stakeholders such as witnesses, clients, or partner organizations preferred
EDUCATION
- High school diploma required
- Undergraduate degree preferred
