RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Criminal Legal Support
- Prepare, review, and process legal documents used in federal criminal cases
- Review incoming case materials and identify documents that need to be prepared or assembled
- Gather information from case files, law enforcement agencies, courts, and other sources
- Submit completed legal documents to the assigned Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) or court, as directed
- Prepare recurring legal documents (motions, subpoenas, warrants, affidavits, notices, summonses, orders, and pleadings)
- Support trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks, jury instructions, witness lists, exhibit lists, and related materials
- Use legal resources to verify citations, statutory references, and source materials
- Prepare tables of contents, indices, citation lists, and reference materials for briefs
- Review legal and non-legal documents, including motions, briefs, pleadings, and correspondence
- Establish, maintain, organize, and update legal case files and records
- Assemble exhibits, affidavits, correspondence, and other legal materials from case files
- Screen and organize records for disposition or transfer in accordance with office procedures
- Open, update, and close cases in automated case tracking systems
- Search databases and case management systems for required information
- Maintain calendars for active cases, court dates, hearings, conferences, interviews, and deadlines
- Track pending dates and provide reminders to the assigned AUSA
- Support scheduling for appointments, interviews, conferences, and court appearances
- Draft routine legal correspondence, including transmittal letters, notices, status updates, and extension requests
- Greet visitors, answer telephone calls, and provide general information on office procedures and case-related matters
- Identify questions or issues that need to be referred to the assigned AUSA
- Communicate professionally with attorneys, staff, visitors, courts, agencies, and other stakeholders
- Manage multiple assignments while meeting established deadlines
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Proficient with office technology
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite & Adobe Acrobat Professional
- Skilled in word processing & data entry
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Valid state driver’s license
- Physically located within the general geographic commuting radius of the USAO office
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Two years in a professional office environment
- Experience in document management and review, and file management systems
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent

- U.S. citizenship is required as it supports the U.S. federal government
- Must be able to complete a Department of Justice (DOJ) background investigation
