RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Civil Litigation Support
- Support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) with day-to-day civil litigation and legal administrative work
- Prepare and file pleadings and other legal documents with the court
- Notify agency counsel of new matters and filed documents
- Review incoming material to determine document assembly and preparation needs
- Process and format complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, and other legal documents
- Draft recurring civil litigation documents using proper legal format and established procedures
- Compose routine legal correspondence and transmittal letters using appropriate legal terminology
- Verify legal citations and statutory references using print and online legal resources
- Develop tables of contents and indices for briefs in the required format
- Compile trial notebooks, jury instructions, witness lists, and exhibit lists for attorney use
- Prepare documents, visuals, and other materials for trial and courtroom presentation
- Produce written materials using office software, including tables, charts, and graphs for legal docs and courtroom use
- Provide technical litigation support by enlarging charts and photographs, duplicating media, and marking exhibits
- Use automated litigation support software applications such as eScanIt and Everlaw
- Coordinate with the Victim-Witness Specialist on matters involving victims’ rights and related services
- Save filed pleadings, correspondence, and related materials to electronic and physical case files
- Maintain legal files, records, exhibits, affidavits, and other case materials
- Assemble and prepare files and records for transfer or disposition under established procedures
- Open, update, and close cases in the automated case tracking system
- Enter and maintain information in databases and review records for continued necessity
- Schedule depositions, conference rooms, and court reporters and coordinate related logistics
- Maintain calendars for assigned cases, including filing dates, hearings, trials, interviews, and conferences
- Provide attorneys with reminders of deadlines, appointments, and court appearances
- Develop and maintain a suspense system for active cases and alert attorneys to upcoming deadlines
- Receive visitors and callers and provide information on office procedures and case-related matters as appropriate
- Determine which matters should be referred to the attorney and identify urgency when needed
- Review bills and invoices and submit them to the budget office for payment
- Track litigation obligations, expert contracts, invoices, and related budget items
- Send call letters and requests for litigation reports to agencies and Main Justice
- Train other legal support personnel as needed
- Arrange travel, prepare itineraries, and secure transportation and hotel reservations
- Complete travel authorizations, travel vouchers, and reimbursement documentation
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Proficiency in Automated Litigation Support (ALS) software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to make responsible decisions on short notice and adapt to unexpected developments
- Ability to manage deadlines, calendars, and multiple active matters
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately
- Physically located within the general geographic commuting radius of the USAO NDGA office
- Valid driver’s license
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated experience performing similar legal administrative, litigation support, and civil case support duties
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- A four-year undergraduate degree preferred
- Additional legal training, paralegal education, or related coursework preferred

- Atlanta, GA 30303
- Work may also be required at branch offices in Rome, GA 30161, Gainesville, GA 30501, and Newnan, GA 30263

CLEARANCE
- U.S. citizenship is required as it supports the U.S. federal government
- Must be able to successfully complete the required federal background investigation
